Filing a Service Tax Return online has become mandatory with effect from 1st April 2010. The government these days is motivating people to file their service tax return online as it saves lot of time of both the government and the tax payer (Service Tax Notification No. 1/2012 – ST – Dated 19th February 2010).
So lets have a look at the steps an Assessee needs to follow to file an E – Service Tax Return.
Requirements for Filing Service Tax
- Keep your 15 digit Service Tax Registration Number handy and in front of you
- Internet Enabled System with Java enabled browser
- Valid email id
Steps to File Service Tax Return Online
Step 1
Obtain the TPIN and Password
Step 2
Fill the ST3 return according to the given instruction
Step 3
Convert the return file into a XML file
Step 4
Log on to ACES website with the username and password created by you
Step 5
Go to RET Module in the menu and click on E- Filing and then click on upload
Step 6
Select the time period and the financial year that need to be filed
Step 7
Click on browse on upload the XML file
Step 8
Click ‘Save’ and then ‘Next’
Step 9
Click on ‘Save’ to save the file to database and then ‘Submit’ to submit the file
Step 10
After submitting the return’s file a message will display in your screen that will tell whether the file has been successfully uploaded or not

You can view the status of your return filed by going to RET Module then on E-Filing and then View ST3
