Pranab Kumar Mukherjee, India’s 13th president and one of the most able politicians of India, has seen sour height of success in his career. Pranab Mukherjee has been one of the key persons of Indian politics and of Congress party.

Initial Life and Family of Pranab Mukherjee
Pranab Mukherjee was born on 11 December in 1935 in Bengal under the rule of British India. His birth place is Mirati, which is a small town in Birpur dist. Pranab had the blood of a freedom fighter in his veins as his father, Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee, was a freedom fighter with the Indian national Congress and had even spent many years in jail. His mother, Rajlakshmi, was a typical Hindu housewife. She spent most of her time at her home. Pranab had an elder sister, her name was Annapoorna Mukherjee.
Pranab’s father Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee was a true devotee of Indian national Congress. Even after the Independence he chose to stay with the Congress; as a consequence he was made the president of the District Congress Committee in Birbhum. From 1952 till 1964, Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee was an associate of the council of West Bengal.
Pranab Mukherjee is a well-educated man. Mukherjee completed his former education at the Suri Vidyasagar College in Birbhum. He then got his later education from the Calcutta University. Pranab Mukherjee did his BA in arts and political science and then he choose to become a lawyer for which he went to Calcutta University. In 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctor by the University of Wolverhampton and in 2012 he was awarded as tan honorary D.Litt by the University of Assam.
Private Life of Pranab Mukherjee
Pranab Mukherjee is a man of discipline in politics as well as in his personal life. He got married at an early age of 22, on 13 July 1957, with Surva Mukherjee. Pranab and Surva had two sons and a daughter.
Pranab Mukherjee, as he says, thinks of Deng Xiapong as an idol in his life. He admires his way of action and his decision making skills.
Like his grandfather and his father, Pranab’s eldest son, Abhijit Mukherjee, rose up and stood as an MLA in Congress. Abhijit is an MLA in the West Bengal province.
Despite of his over busy schedule, Pranab, takes out time for his personal hobbies. Pranab likes gardening, reading and listening music.
Pranab is a strong believer in God. Every year he performs the Durga Puja in his village.
Professional Career: Political Career of Pranab Mukherjee
Like his father Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee, Pranab Mukherjee also joined Indian National Congress. Pranab was a hard worker; he knew the fruit of hard work. He came into politics soon before the bell of National Emergency i.e. 1969. At that time India’s Prime Minister was Mrs. Indira Gandhi. From 1969 to 1973 Pranab became known to the world as an able politician and an able leader. Due to his presence of mind and his ability, Pranab was known as the ‘man of all seasons’.
He climbed up the ladder of success very swiftly and just after 4 years in 1973, Pranab Mukherjee was among the cabinet ministers of the Mrs. Indira Gandhi. As soon as he entered the politics he chose to use all of his qualification and mental strength within it.
Impressed by Pranab’s work Mrs. Indira Gandhi made him a close associate of her party. Pranab played an important role at the time of national emergency and for this he was also criticized with the Government. He along with others was charged of misuse of the powers laid down by the Emergency.
From 1978 till 1979, Pranab Mukherjee was designated as the treasurer of the Congress Committee.
Pranab Mukherjee, even after becoming an ordinary minister of cabinet aspired higher. He rose up to higher levels within the cabinet and achieved success in 1982. Pranab Mukherjee became the leader of Rajya Sabha in 1980 and soon after this in 1982 he was sworn in as the Finance minister if India succeeding Ramaswamy Venkataraman.
Pranab Mukherjee aspired to take the place of Mrs. Indira Gandhi after her death. Though, Pranab’s desire to become the Prime Minister of the country was not successful due to the presence of Rajiv Gandhi. In 1986 Pranab Mukherjee, in a state of disgust, went to west Bengal with the Rashtriya Samajwadi Congress party.
Pranab was politically criticized for his sojourn in West Bengal. Critics added that this happened because of Pranab’s inability to present himself as a political idol in front of the nation.
After three years, Pranab, went for a negotiation with Rajiv Gandhi and then joined his party with the Congress.
Rajiv Gandhi was succeeded by P.V. Narasimha Rao. The new PM designated Pranab as the Deputy Chairperson of the Planning Commission. He was in the office since 1991 to 1996. Afterwards he was elected as the Union cabinet minister.
In 1995 Pranab Mukherjee, succeeding Denish Singh, became the Minister of External Affairs till 1996.
In 2004 Pranab was selected as the Minister of Defense of India succeeding George Fernandes. He was in the office till 2006. Pranab was succeeded by A.K. Antony.
In 2007, Pranab was also a candidate in the presidential elections. But later on his name was removed from the list of the candidates electing for president ship.
Under the term of PM Manmohan Singh, Pranab had the opportunity of taking care of various responsibilities at a time.
In 2009 Pranab was again appointed as the Finance Minister of India. He was in the office till 2012 and after that he left the party to become the president of India.
Pranab’s Role in Congress
Pranab has played a critical role in the congress since joining. He was a close associate of Mrs. Indira Gandhi at the time of Emergency.
All through the Patent’s Amendment Bill in 2005 or the IP bill, Pranab has shown tremendous efforts and excellence in work. He has been designated several different positions in the party through his political career, such as the Treasurer, he has become the chairman of the AICC four times and has even stood at other respectable places.
Corruption Charges Against Pranab Mukherjee
Team Anna has alleged Pranab Mukherjee for corruption. They have stated that they will release all the proofs and allegations against Pranab Mukherjee on the day when he would be sworn as the president of the Nation.
Achievements: Government Policies Made Success By
As a Defense Minister, Pranab, made the US India relationship stronger. He was even criticized by the wiki leaks for being acute. As a defense minister, Pranab, made a ten year long Defense deal with the US.
As a Foreign Minister, Pranab Mukherjee made the U.S.-India Civil Nuclear Agreement successful. But the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty was left unsigned.
Pranab’s success as a Finance minister was marked by the last loan payment of IMF. As a Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee implemented several tax modifications such as the Fringe Benefits and the Commodities Transaction Tax. He even modified goods and commodity tax.’
During Pranab’s tenure the fiscal deficit was also achieved the as per the annual target.
Pranab stretched the literary budget and made the mid-day meal project possible.
In 2010 Pranab Mukherjee was bestowed with “Finance Minister of the Year for Asia”.
Pranab Mukherjee: The 13 President of India
Among the long list of presidential candidates, Pranab Mukherjee was elected as the president of India in 2012.
The last two candidates in the list were Sangma and Pranab among which Pranab Mukherjee took the President seat.
Pranab Mukherjee would publically avow as the president by the Chief Justice of India on 25 July 2012.
